Our Open Source Approach
We take an open source approach to everything.
The open source philosophy is not just about software, it’s about uplifting humanity.
Our goal has always been to help our clients reach their next level of success by sharing our knowledge.
When we started our business, there were essentially 3 guidelines that we wanted to follow.
First, we wanted to help small businesses, that were just getting going, get top tier results for less than the big city agencies.
Not every business starting out has the budget for expensive marketing agencies.
Second, we wanted to teach our friends & clients how-to NOT get taken advantage of.
I had worked for other companies that would essentially seize control of domain names, have complete control of hosting and in many cases when a client wanted to move on, they would have to jump through hoops or pay a fee to get released what they had already paid for.
So, we insist that our clients follow a process that assures they maintain ownership to their domain, hosting, etc… everything in their name.
You should know and understand the entire process, the assets involved (& their value), and actually get what you’re paying for.
Third, we wanted to be open & up front about how it all works & how to operate it all for themselves.
After all, practically everything we’ve learned & know was learned from an open source internet.
It’s all open source to us so the more people we can help the better.
Unfortunately, we’ve always known that time is limiting and we can only help a handful of clients a year on an individual level.
That’s the reason for this.
We can share this & help more people directly by putting it into a ‘follow at your pace’ format.
Okay, so why do we get so excited about open source?
In a word… Freedom!
Open source provides ultimate freedom on several different levels.
Please, allow me to explain & why it encompasses everything we do…
Open Source started out referring to source code in software.
If the code was ‘open to share’ with others, it was ‘open source’.
Now that open source software has practically taken over most of the tech industry, end users seldom realize they’re experiencing open source on a daily basis.
In the early days, it was mainly Linux… web servers & firewalls, etc.
Now even Windows operates on the Linux kernel.
Google Chrome is open source and has dominated the operating system market globally.
Linux distributions like Ubuntu, Mint, ArchLinux and others have made operating systems free worldwide.
Internet projects like Mozilla FireFox & Thunderbird have given safer open source alternatives to proprietary products, riddled with vulnerabilities, from MS & others.
Content management systems like WordPress & Joomla have made building your own enterprise class website within reach for the common person.
It doesn’t require an expensive degree, just the time to read the directions & learn.
It allows anyone with an internet connection to learn & gain knowledge about several topics.
Anything from graphics & web design, to programming applications, all the way up to cyber-security.
So the term has evolved into something BIGGER!
Open Source levels the playing field & creates social mobility.
It creates transparency.
It allows for everyone to see the inner workings of something & provide feedback that create improvements to the project.
It creates a better peer review process by it’s own nature.
This makes everything inherently more secure.
It created it’s own economy/ecosystem.
From security professionals, web developers & designers, app designers, all the way to content marketers & bloggers.
The bottom line is that open source is winning & will prevail.
These are some of the reasons that I love & endorse open source.
The philosophy, the software, and as the only direction for a truly free society.
This is why we say, “Open Source Everything!”.
